SOUTH SEA PEARLS

The south sea pearls are bigger and more priceless pearl than the others. This kind of pearl grow at Maxima shell (salt water shells) and its origin is North of Australia, Indonesia, Philippine and Burma.

If you compare Akoya and Tahitian pearls with South sea once, you notice that the South sea can grow up to 30 mm. There are 2 kinds of Maxima shells: silver edge and golden edge. The silver edge shells are at northwestern  of Australia. This kind of shell can make silver or white pearls. The golden edge shells can make yellow or gold pearl. This color of South sea is at Philippine and Indonesia too.

Totally the diameter of South sea pearl is between 8 to 20 mm. (in average 13 mm). Unlike of Akoya or Tahitian pearls, South sea pearls have satiny shine. Its pearl shell is thinner (less hardness) and has opaque or satiny shine because they produce at hot water in a long time.

Its good to know that all of South pearls are not gold or silver. Actually they exhibit wide range of colors like cream, silver, yellow and gold. Besides some of these colors mix with pink, green and blue. Because of its shin, the South sea pearl is more attractive and popular than the others.
